I grew up with parents who bred cocker spaniels in the 50's/60's. My first insight into our fabulous breed was an aptly named smart border collie x kelpie, 'Speedy', in the early 1970's, who would accompany me on the long walks to my horse stables and tag along behind my horse on rides.
The first purebred border collie we had was a red & white male, bought for my daughter in 2001. We now have nine border collies within our family.
With my late husband Ian, who received a posthumous life membership at the 2025 AGM, we were excited to be involved as founding members, myself as the inaugural secretary, following on from conversation around a spit roast at the 2019 Sydney Nationals! Together we authored and adapted the clubs Constitution, Administration Manual, Policies and procedures, Risk Management and Strategic Plans etc, placing our breed club at a high management standard. We lead by example.
Obedience, agility and conformation showing, were dog activities I've enjoyed participating in and I am very proud of the inclusiveness, growth and direction our young club has taken. It is exciting to be involved in the upcoming hosting of the 2027 BC Nationals, honouring Ian's groundwork in presenting Gawler as the ideal venue.
